Poston Butte quarterback Robert Herrera rushed for two touchdowns and defensive back Cameron Owens had an interception return for a touchdown as the Broncos capitalized on a slew of Higley turnovers and penalties to defeat the visiting Knights, 31-23, on Friday.

After the Knights scored a touchdown early in the third quarter to take a 16-14 lead, Herrera marched Poston Butte (2-1) down the field, scoring from five yards out to reclaim the lead for the Broncos 21-16.

Knights' penalties helped Poston Butte tack on another touchdown late in the fourth quarter to give the Broncos a 31-16 lead.

Higley quarterback Mythias Young threw the second of his two touchdowns to close the gap to 31-23 with two minutes left in the game, but time ran out on the Knights (1-2).

Higley looked like they were going to take a 10-7 lead into halftime, before Young’s pass found the hands of Owens, who found the end zone to give Poston Butte the momentum and a 14-10 lead at the half.

Despite the loss, the Knights outrushed the Broncos 222 yards to 204 yards, led by Thomas Bush who carried the ball 23 times for 113 yards and a score.

Dante Romero led Poston Butte in rushing with 74 yards on 11 carries, while Jason Compeon rushed four time for 70 yards and a touchdown.

Tempe Prep 24, Seton Catholic 21: Led by running back Forrest Redlin’s 126 yards and two touchdowns, Tempe Prep (Division V) beat a Division IV team for the first time in school history, upsetting No. 3-ranked Seton Catholic. Tempe Prep kicker Getamesay Wiese nailed a 24-yard field goal to put the game out of reach. Redlin got the scoring going early for the Knights (3-0), running for a 19-yard touchdown in the first quarter and then a 44-yard touchdown in the third. Tempe Prep finished with 298 yards for the game, while dropping Seton Catholic to 2-1 overall.
