The semifinals of the Horizon Big League Dugout Tournament are set after Thursday’s slate of games.
Hamilton and Corona will meet at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Horizon H.S. in the first semifinal and Mountain Pointe will take on Horizon at 12:30 p.m. in the other semifinal.
The Aztecs shutout Pleasant Valley (Calif.) 5-0 to advance to the semifinals. Rick Riley had a double and three RBI for Corona.
Trevor Wood pitched four innings to get the win.
Hamilton defeated Rocky Mountain (Colo.) 12-1 in five innings to move on to the next round.
Cody Billinger had a monster performance, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and five RBI.
Trent Goodrich and Mitch Nay also each collected two hits and two RBI.
Parker Gallegos pitched all five innings to earn the victory.
Gilbert held on to defeat Mesquite 6-4 on the road in a Division I, Section II game. Dustin Peterson went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and three RBI for the Tigers.
Taylor Stapley earned the win to improve his record to 5-0.
Casey Howard hit a 2-run home run for the Wildcats.
In Division III action, Anthony Campasano’s performance on the mound and at the plate helped Coronado to a 11-6 home win over Combs on Thursday.
Campasano pitched four innings to earn the win and went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
Derek Rynearson had a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three RBI. Daniel Triplett also collected three hits and knocked in one run.
Houston Edwards went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple for the Dons.
Paul Jackson helped out defensively with a reaching, over-the-shoulder catch in left field to rob Christian Bradshaw of a hit and a RBI in the second inning.
Brandon Lee earned the save.
