Girls golf
Freshman Kaira Martin of Phoenix Xavier shot a 3-under 36 to lead the Gators (140) over Mesa Red Mountain (171) and Chandler (217) in a 5A-I nonregion match at Camelback Golf Club in Scottsdale Monday.
Cheyenne Woods also of Xavier and Kristen Schelling of Red Mountain tied for second with 34s. Schelling was the 2005 Class 5A-I medalist, and Woods was the 2006 Class 5A-I medalist.
Chaparral (166) beat Notre Dame Prep (191), and Phoenix Country Day (230) in a nonconference match at the par-35 Sanctuary Golf Course in Scottsdale. Emily Kaye of Chaparral was the medalist with a 37, and teammate Lauren Nehf was third with a 40.
Shelby Phillips of Highland shot a 3-over 36 as the Hawks (188) beat Basha (191) and Mesa High (245) in a 5A nonregion match at Lone Tree Golf Club in Chandler. Kelli Ruth of Basha finished second with a 41.
Ashlynn Hall of Dobson finished in first place as the Mustangs (198) beat Phoenix Barry Goldwater (221), and Horizon (233) in a 5A nonregion match at par-37 Dobson Ranch Golf Course in Mesa. Hall finished with a 41, while Stephanie Martin also of Dobson, came in third with a 47.
Volleyball
Abby Simmons had 41 assists and seven digs as visiting Desert Vista remained undefeated on the year (7-0) with a 25-12, 25-15, 25-12 win over Pinnacle in a 5A nonregion match.
