Dobson shut out Williams Field, 4-0, in the championship game of the Highland Triple Play Classic baseball tournament on Thursday at Highland High School.

The Mustangs (9-6) went 5-0 in the tournament (3-0 in pool play and a semifinal win over Mesa on Wednesday).

The Mustangs got just three hits for the game but got a great pitching performance from Cade Montplaisir. Montplaisir pitched a complete game in his first start of the season and had eight strikeouts with no walks.

Despite the three hits, Dobson was able to push runs across with the help of timely hitting and a couple of Black Hawks errors. The Mustangs scored two runs in the first inning when Chris Pennell hit a double to score Justin Behnke. Nick Kaltenbach then sent Pennell to home with a triple.

Dobson added two more runs in the fifth inning with an RBI by D.J. Carr, Carr would later score on a wild pitch. Williams Field fell to 11-5 on the season.

Gilbert beat Mountain View, 12-2, in the final game for both teams of the Mesquite-Gilbert Baseball Invitational.

Gilbert went 5-0 in the tournament and led throughout against the Toros. Taylor Stapley was the star of the game for the Tigers (11-5). Stapley earned his fourth win of the season, pitched all five innings and was 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI at the plate.

Dustin Peterson went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI while Jack Zoellner hit a solo home run. Tyler Wiehl was 2-for-3 with a home run to lead Mountain View.

Elsewhere in the Mesquite-Gilbert Invitational, Mesquite held on for a 4-3 win over Red Mountain. Garrett Jeffries pitched the final inning and earned his third win of the season. The Wildcats (12-3) trailed 3-2 heading into the sixth inning but scored two runs in the final two innings to complete the comeback. Seth Fretheim had a double and a run scored to lead Mesquite and Jake Howard finished 2-for-3 with an RBI. Aaron Smith was 3-for-4 with a run scored to lead the Lions. The Wildcats finished 5-0 in the tournament.
