It is said that defense wins championships.

Now combine an impenetrable defense with a potent offense and one has to figure that Tucson Sabino has a pretty good shot at making it to the 4A-I title game again this year.

The No. 1 Sabercats (10-1) went into the playoffs averaging 35.9 points per game while giving up a mere 5.9. That trend continued Friday as host Sabino beat No. 16 Tempe McClintock 42-0 in the first round.

“McClintock went to the wire with Chaparral last week, so we weren’t taking them lightly," Sabino coach Jay Campos said.

“I was proud of our boys because we had a good week of practice and I could tell we were ready to play.” McClintock finished its season 6-5

Lundgren led the Sabercats with 11 carries for 119 yards, but it was Randall who modestly went 5-10 for 87 yards and three touchdowns that stole the spotlight.
