Outlook: The Thunder try to rebound from being shut out by Basha last week, which gave the Bears the Central Region title.
Special teams were a big factor, as the Thunder missed a kick and blocked another, but Thunder coach Dan Hinds was more interested in his team’s blocking on offense. “It’s not that we need to change a bunch of things, it wasn’t the scheme,” he said. “Back to the basics and blocking and catching footballs.”
Desert Vista won the matchup last month between these two teams, but it’s a moot point now. “The atmosphere is different and records don’t matter,” Hinds said. “The feeling during playoff week is a little different.”
Corona is without five starters, all out with injuries, but the Aztecs still won with some late-game fortune against Basha two weeks ago and Marcos de Niza last week. The key for Corona will be the line of scrimmage, something Aztecs coach Gary Venturo didn’t enjoy watching in their last meeting. “You can’t let them go if you get a hat on them,” he said. “Put your hat on somebody., We can’t let them go free again.”
