21 Ks for Arcadia’s Leibler in 1-hitter

Paula Leibler (4-2-1) struck out 21 of the 22 batters she faced on Wednesday, tossing a one-hitter to lead Phoenix Arcadia to a 7-0 win over visiting Glendale Apollo in 4A nonregion softball action.

Catcher Dani Lockwood led the Titans (10-4-1) at the plate with a pair of hits and RBIs.

BASEBALL

Jake Barrett homered and drove in three runs as host Desert Ridge pounded Marana Mountain View 15-5 in five innings. Barrett also threw a complete game to pick up his fourth win on the year. Ethan Chavez also homered, and Trace Klein went 4-for-4 for the Jaguars. …

Coronado defeated Yukan (Okla.) 14-12 in a Best of the West Invitational game at Peoria Centennial High. Bryan Dunlavey (5-1) came on in relief to earn his second win of the invitational for the Dons. Coronado starter Nolan Lamb went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. …

James Pasoz (2-2) went five solid innings to lead host Highland (5-9) over Casa Grande 6-3. Taylor Whatcott drove in two runs and Nick Baker added an RBI for the Hawks. …

Connor Hulse (3-0) struck out seven in a five-inning shutout as Horizon (14-0) handled visiting St. Mary’s 18-0 in a 5A Desert Valley Region game. Thomas Joseph homered and had three RBIs to lead the Huskies.

BOYS TRACK

Desert Vista got the best of host Basha, winning 83-49. Thunder standouts included Matt Kline with a time of 49.9 seconds in the 400 meters and Vince Matthews, who went 44 feet, 6 inches in the triple jump. Basha’s Erroll Tucker won the 110 high hurdles in 14.7. …

Mountain View easily handled visiting Westwood 129-12 behind Ron Taylor’s all-around efforts. Taylor swept the sprints, winning the 100, 200, and 400 meters, and also won the long jump at 21-9. …

Phil Feinberg placed first in the long jump and the high jump to help host Corona del Sol defeat Marcos de Niza 110-31.

GIRLS TRACK

Shayna Norberg’s 400 time of 60.8 helped Mountain View handle visiting Westwood 113-24. Other impressive performances were turned in by the Toros’ Cami Jackson with an 11:21 in the 3,200 meters and Shalae Nielson, who went 5-4 in the high jump. …

Tiffany Summers won the high jump and triple jump to lead host Corona del Sol to a 95-38 win over Marcos de Niza. Samia Stokes took first in the shot put and discus for the Aztecs.

SOFTBALL

Queen Creek held off visiting Flagstaff Sinagua 6-4. The Bulldogs (3-10) were led by Jesse Wooten’s 2-for-3 performance and Jamie Koottcamp, who had two triples. …

Xavier defeated host Yuma Kofa 1-0 in an 11-inning 5A nonregion game. Tess Casey drove in the winning run on a hard hit ball to second base that scored Keeley Feniuk from third. Stephanie Janes (8-3-1) went the distance for Xavier, striking out 14 batters.
