In a back-and-forth affair, Horizon (10-7, 1-1) defeated Xavier at home, 25-14, 21-25, 25-13, 24-26, 15-13, with clutch play down the stretch. With the Huskies trailing in the fifth set, they got two key blocks from Jennifer Hess and multiple kills by Leah Flattness. Horizon assistant coach Tim Henderson was proud of his team's performance saying, "Xavier can be ranked higher, but we always give them a good match." Henderson also said the key to the game was Horizon matching Xavier's tenacity throughout the entire contest.
Leah Nelson had 14 kills and four aces, Hess contributed five kills and eight blocks, and Sarah Feil added 12 kills and five blocks.
Notre Dame Prep took second and third place in the 400 freestyle relay to earn the six points it needed to hold off visiting Cactus Shadows and earn a 93-92 victory. The Saints now have seven wins this season, equaling the total number of wins the school had in its first four years.
Helping the Saints to their win was Haleigh Thompson, who won the 200 individual medley with a school record 2:26.22.
Schooner Sonntag scored on a penalty kick in the first half and Matt Selling also scored as Phoenix Country Day beat host St. Paul's 2-1 in a 1A-3A game.
Hamilton had an easy time with Dobson during an 8-1 victory. Adele Zhou, Ariel Marlor, Donna Diaz and Kelly Raz all won matches for Hamilton.
