Desert Ridge shot a 198 to beat Desert Mountain (206) and Chandler (210) Tuesday at Ocotillo Golf Club in Chandler. Chandler's Justin Rodriguez and Desert Ridge's Wade Henry tied for the individual honors at 3-over-par 38.


Despite the absence of two of their top golfers, Higley (163) defeated Tempe (212) and Camelback (disqualified) behind a balanced team effort at Los Colinas.


Sammy Geiger had 24 assists to go along with 10 aces as Cactus Shadows (10-5, 1-0) defeated Phoenix Washington at home, 25-11, 25-14, 25-14 in a Wells Fargo Region match. . . 

Arcadia improved its overall record to 13-4 by defeating Apache Junction in three games. Megan Toth contributed 12 kills and five aces for the Titans, who are now 1-0 in the East Sky Region. . . .

Brooke Jackson and Mary Perkinson led visiting Mountain View through a tough stretch, overcoming a third-game defeat to win, 25-16, 25-10, 21-25, 25-20, against Red Mountain. . . . Cassie Uribe played a strong game all around in leading host Notre Dame Prep (16-5, 1-0) over Prescott Valley Bradshaw Mountain, 25-15, 25-17, 25-17 in the Wells Fargo Region. Uribe had eight kills, two blocks, three aces and four digs in the win. . . .

Mesa won its region opener by defeating host Skyline in three games. Inga Solomanson and Anguli Hail both had seven kills for the Jackrabbits, who improved to 14-3 on the season. . . .

Westwood opened region play with a win over visiting Dobson. Stephanie Hartman contributed 12 kills for the Warriors, while Meghan Ryan added 28 assists. . . .

Senior leader Pisila Tukia helped Tempe rally past Higley, 25-17, 21-25, 16-25, 25-20, 15-10 at home with an all-around game that included 22 kills, six aces, 10 digs, and two blocks. . . .

Corona del Sol won its 5A Central Region opener against visiting Desert Vista, 25-15, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19. The Aztecs (13-5, 1-0) were led by Sara Bowden, who had 24 kills and 16 digs. Michelle Hein added 20 kills ad 23 digs and Sarah Goodwin had 51 assists for Corona. . . .

Basha fell at home to Tucson Salpointe, 20-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-23, 15-7, despite jumping in front for a two-game advantage. "They brought their level up and we didn't match it" Basha coach Jim Kann said. Rachel Brock had 15 kills and nine blocks for the Bears. . . .

Rebecca Williams had 32 assists to lead Florence (19-0, 5-0) over visiting Eloy Santa Cruz, 25-11, 25-9, 25-20 in a 3A South Region match. . . .

In a back-and-forth affair, Horizon (10-7, 1-1) defeated Xavier at home, 25-14, 21-25, 25-13, 24-26, 15-13, with clutch play down the stretch. With the Huskies trailing in the fifth set, they got two key blocks from Jennifer Hess and multiple kills by Leah Flattness. Horizon assistant coach Tim Henderson was proud of his team's performance saying, "Xavier can be ranked higher, but we always give them a good match." Henderson also said the key to the game was Horizon matching Xavier's tenacity throughout the entire contest.

Leah Nelson had 14 kills and four aces, Hess contributed five kills and eight blocks, and Sarah Feil added 12 kills and five blocks.


Notre Dame Prep took second and third place in the 400 freestyle relay to earn the six points it needed to hold off visiting Cactus Shadows and earn a 93-92 victory. The Saints now have seven wins this season, equaling the total number of wins the school had in its first four years.

Helping the Saints to their win was Haleigh Thompson, who won the 200 individual medley with a school record 2:26.22.


Schooner Sonntag scored on a penalty kick in the first half and Matt Selling also scored as Phoenix Country Day beat host St. Paul's 2-1 in a 1A-3A game.


Hamilton had an easy time with Dobson during an 8-1 victory. Adele Zhou, Ariel Marlor, Donna Diaz and Kelly Raz all won matches for Hamilton.
