Mesa Skyline easily won its home opener Friday, shutting out San Luis 34-0 in a 5A Division II nonregion game in Mesa.
The Coyotes (1-1) got all the scoring they would need just a little more than one minute into the game, when quarterback Jonathan Bailey hit Matthew Montoya with a 37-yard touchdown pass.
Bailey, who completed 8 of 12 passes for 141 yards, later ran for another score, sneaking in from the 1-yard line with 10:10 left in the second quarter.
The Coyotes' Ted Kook had a solid all-around effort, contributing 155 yards of total offense and a touchdown.
San Luis (0-2) rushed for only 54 yards and committed 11 penalties.
