03/12 - Baseball roundup: Scottsdale Christian beats Desert Ridge with single in 7th

Eric King knocked in the game-winning run in the seventh inning as Scottsdale Christian defeated Desert Ridge 4-3 Thursday at Higley High School to claim the East Valley Grand Slam Tournament championship.

Teammate Isaac Savage went 2-for-3 with a triple. The game was originally set for last week, but was postponed due to rain.

HIGLEY 8, SHOW LOW 5: In pool play of the Santa Cruz Invitational, the Knights (4-1) took out the Cougars after beating host Eloy Santa Cruz 4-2 earlier in the day. Against Show Low, Pat Dalacerda pitched a complete game with six strikeouts, while Casey Arnett went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.

VALLEY CHRISTIAN 3, VALLEY UNION 2: The visiting Trojans won a close game over the Blue Devils. Josh Lett was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.


Keenan Donahue was 1-for-4 and stole four bases as the Trojans defeated the Red Raiders.

MOUNTAIN VIEW 6, DOBSON 4: The host Toros (6-2, 2-0) had just enough to get past the Mustangs (0-2 region) in a 5A East Valley Region game. Collin Gosch led the Toros, going 2-for-4 with a home run, and catcher Chris Vinyard finished 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs.

SURREY GARDEN 11, CANYON STATE ACADEMY 1: Cody Blare led the Knights (3-0) with an RBI double and six strikeouts as they beat the Spartans in 1A West Region action.

CORONADO 5, PHOENIX THUNDERBIRD 0: Randy Merkle had a home run and two RBIs for the Dons (6-4) as they defeated the Chiefs in a 4A non-region matchup. Colin Dunlavey went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs for Coronado.

CHANDLER 6, GLENDALE SANDRA DAY O’CONNOR 1: The host Wolves (5-3) defeated the Eagles in a 5A non-region game. Jon Poterson had a home run and teammate Reno Blomquist was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBIs for Chandler.


The visiting Huskies (7-0, 2-0) dominated the Trojans in a 5A Desert Valley Region matchup. Horizon’s Tyler Falco was 3-for-4 with two RBIs while teammate David Bluth was 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Matt Hall added three RBIs for Horizon.

PHOENIX SUNNYSLOPE 5, SAGUARO 2: The Vikings (7-2) defeated the visiting Sabercats (2-7) in a 4A non-region matchup. Bryan Bentz pitched a complete game and struck out 10 for Saguaro.

NOTRE DAME PREP 10, APACHE JUNCTION 0: The host Saints (4-3) downed the Prospectors in a 4A non-region game. Peter Bourgos led the Saints with a 2-for-3 effort with a single and a home run.


The Titans beat the visiting Cobras in nine innings. Curtis Hornaday went 2-for-3 with a double while teammate Chris Ance went 2-for-2.
