Coolidge advances with win over Santa Cruz

Host Coolidge had little trouble with Santa Cruz as the Bears beat the Dust Devils in first-round action of the 3A state playoffs.

The Bears (8-2) rushed for 330 yards on 46 carries and four touchdowns. Brad Jackson gave the Bears a 9-7 lead on a 59-yard touchdown run. Jeremy White scored on a 12-yard run for a 18-13 lead.

The Bears then put the game away when Charlie Garrett and White added touchdown runs of 3 and 68 yards, respectively for the final margin of victory. Jackson had 20 carries for 162 yards, White carried the ball 13 times for 102 yards, and quarterback Garrett rushed the ball 11 times for 52 yards. Coolidge advances to play Payson at 8 p.m. Friday at Chandler Perry High School.

In other 3A playoff games involving East Valley schools, Fountain Hills fell on the road, 28-6, to top-ranked Lakeside Blue Ridge and Maricopa fell 38-13 at Winslow.
