Jessica Mitchell had a game-winning RBI single in the eighth inning, scoring Whitney Phillips as Desert Mountain (23-13) hung on to beat Tucson Sunnyside, 2-1, in the 5A Division II state softball tournament Tuesday at Rose Mofford Sports Complex.
With the win, the Wolves advanced to the state semifinals.
Phillips also had an RBI double in the first inning. Lauren Kemp was the winning pitcher, tossing a complete game while allowing just three hits, with nine strikeouts.
In another 5A-II game, Yuma Kofa beat Glendale Deer Valley, 2-1

The Aztecs scored five runs in the fourth inning, all with two outs, to eliminate the Jackrabbits at Rose Mofford Sports Complex. Sara Sandoval added a two-run single for Mesa.

Kennedy Bixbee, Tori Munhall, and Peach Luna each had one hit, but they were the only three hits of the game for the Firebirds (24-9) as they fell to the second-seeded Cobras at Rose Mofford Sports Complex.
In other 4A-I games, Tucson Canyon del Oro beat Tucson Sahuaro, 10-0; Phoenix Greenway beat Tucson Sabino, 2-1; and Tucson Ironwood Ridge beat Tucson Catalina Foothills, 7-3.
ARCADIA 10, BULLHEAD CITY MOHAVE 0: f=Interstate-Light s=8 l=9 Paula Liebler got her 20th win of the season with eight strikeouts as Arcadia beat Mohave.
After Arcadia scored five runs in the sixth inning, the game was called due to the 10-run mercy rule. Danielle Madison had a single, double, and two runs scored, Marissa Smith added a home run and three RBIs, and Ashley Kennedy scored a run and had an RBI for the Titans (23-7).
In other 4A-II games, Prescott Valley Bradshaw Mountain beat Douglas, 4-0 and Flagstaff beat Tucson Desert View, 4-1.
