Mesa High’s Aaron Fuller gave a verbal commitment to the University of Iowa, Jackrabbits basketball coach Shane Burcar said on Tuesday.
Fuller, a 6-foot-7 senior forward, averaged 24.5 points and 10.9 rebounds a game for Mesa, helping the Jackrabbits to the 5A East Valley Region title. Fuller was also the region’s player of the year as voted by the coaches last month.
Not highly recruited last season by major programs, Fuller’s suitors increased this fall and winter. He was pursued by Iowa, Washington State and Michigan. Iowa offered Fuller a scholarship last month, but he waited until last weekend to take a trip there and liked what he saw on his visit, Burcar said.
Fuller didn’t get a chance to help Mesa in the recently completed 5A Division I state tournament after suffering a broken jaw in the region tournament championship game against Mesa Mountain View. He missed the Jackrabbits’ first-round game with Chandler Basha, a 50-38 loss.
