Along with competing for Chandler Hamilton, Yun is still involved in other amateur events and last weekend won the Arizona Golf Association’s Stroke Play Championship.
A final-round 69 on Desert Mountain’s Outlaw Course gave Yun a 7-stroke victory. He finished third at last year’s 5A-I state championship.
Week in review
Mother Nature canceled one of the best girls tournaments of the year last weekend when rained soaked the Prescott Invitational.
Coaches tried several times to get the girls out on the Antelope Hills Golf Course. Each time the girls had to return to the pro shop. No golfer finished 18 holes and only about 15 were able to play nine. They’ll get another chance this weekend at the Aguila Invitational in Laveen. All the top teams will be there.
“This will tell the story of what may happen at state,’’ Tempe Corona del Sol coach Pat Reed said.
Lions roar: They were a success story in high school and now these former Mesa Red Mountain golfers are trying their hand at professional golf. They’ve had their share of successes professionally as well.
Kendall Critchfield, Jesse Mueller, Aaron Watkins, Matt Brooks and Charlie Beljan all helped the Mountain Lions to seven state championships between 1995-2002.
Watkins has played a full schedule on the Nationwide Tour this year and the others have enjoyed success on smaller professional tours like the local Gateway Tour. Mueller has three top-10 finishes on that tour this summer.
Looking ahead
