In the blink of an eye, Westwood raced out to a 21-0 lead. The Warriors didn't look back as they blew out Gila Ridge 49-0 on Friday.

Big plays and short drives highlighted this surreal start for Westwood. Highlighted by a 53 yard Ethan Johnson run, the Warriors (3-1) took four plays and 90 seconds to score on their opening drive. After forcing the Hawks (0-4) to go three-and-out, the Westwood offense needed only six plays to score again, on a 5-yard pass from quarterback Kane Tieman to DJ Bex. This drive was highlighted by a 46-yard completion from Tieman to Bex.

The Warriors' defense forced a fumble on Gila Ridge’s next play from scrimmage. Westwood recovered at the Hawks’ 25 yard line and found the end zone three plays later on an 8-yard run by Johnson. Barely six minutes in, and the Warriors were already ahead 21-0.

“They just took off from the first play and they ran to the end zone about three series in a row almost untouched,” Gila Ridge coach Tom Hurt said.

Johnson led the Westwood offense with 138 rushing yards and three total touchdowns. Tieman also had a very good night, completing 10 of 16 passes for 132 yards and three touchdowns, and he also ran for a score. Dezmond Sueing got into the act as well rushing for 98 yards and scoring two touchdowns on the night.

“We take pride in running the football,” Warriors coach Spencer Stowers said. “11 guys on the ball at all times and I think that overwhelming presence can wear on a team. We came out that way and we finished that way.”

As good as Westwood was offensively, the defense was even better. The Hawks were held to five first downs and just 101 yards of total offense on the night.

“Defensively, they just outplayed us,” Hurt said. “They played better defense than we did offense. They did a good job. They were well-coached and well prepared for this game.”
