Valley Christian’s Dalen Linnerson held off defending champion Blair Myers of Scottsdale Christian to capture the 1A-2A boys state golf tournament title Tuesday at Hillcrest Golf Course in Sun City West.

After shooting a 2-under 70 on Monday, Linnerson fired an even-par 72 in windy conditions Tuesday and finished at 2-under 142, one shot ahead of Myers (71-72—143). While Myers fell a stroke short of an individual title, he did lead the Eagles to the team championship. Scottsdale Christian won with a 604 total, ahead of Yuma Catholic (608), Valley Christian (611) and Phoenix Country Day (625).

Bentley Nakasawa of Yuma Catholic was third with a 146 total, followed by John Wolfe of Phoenix Country Day (147) and Jason Cornelius of Glendale Northwest Christian (150).

Scottsdale Christian’s Hilmar Thordarson finished tied for seventh with a 153.
