Amy Jarvis had four goals and No. 10 Highland built a three-goal lead to stun host No. 7 Mountain View in firstround action of the 5A Division I state girls soccer tournament.
It was the first multi-goal game of Jarvis’ career.
“She earned every single one of them,” Highland coach John Berzins. “She’s a workhorse.”
With the win Highland advances to face Mountain Pointe in the state quarterfinals. All 5A-I, 5A-II, 4A-I and 4A-II quarterfinal games involving East Valley teams will be played Saturday at the Tempe Sports Complex.

MOUNTAIN POINTE 6, GLENDALE MOUNTAIN RIDGE 0: Alexandra Elston had three goals and Tessa Bowie made four saves for her 15th shutout of the season as the second-seeded Pride (21-2) scored six times at home on just 15 shots to defeat the No. 15 Mountain Lions (8-11) and advance to a quarterfinal matchup with Highland.
Erica Long added two goals for Mountain Pointe.
HORIZON 2, MESQUITE 0: Alex Rush and Gianara Campasano scored first-half goals and the host Huskies (16-4) used a stingy defense, led by goalkeeper Carlyn Swensen, to shut down the No. 14 Wildcats.
No. 3 Horizon advances to a quarterfinal match with Desert Vista.
TUCSON SALPOINTE 1, RED MOUNTAIN 0: The eighth-seeded Lancers (21-6) eked past the visiting No. 9 Mountain Lions (18-8) thanks to an own goal late in the game. Salpointe advanced to a quarterfinal matchup with Corona del Sol.
CORONA DEL SOL 5, YUMA 0: Five different players scored as the top-seeded Aztecs (21-2-1) tuned up for a quarterfinal meeting with Salpointe by hammering the No. 16 Criminals at Corona.
Noel Guevara had a goal and an assist and Katie Cartwright added two assists for Corona.
GILBERT 2, HAMILTON 0: Nicole Lavely and Brittany Kaminski scored a goal apiece for the No. 4 Tigers (17-4) in a win over the No. 13 Huskies at Gilbert.
Gilbert next faces Dobson.
DOBSON 4, TUCSON 0: Melanie Johnston, Lauren Baumgarten, Christa Bitner and Kayla Poe all had goals as the fifth-seeded Mustangs (20-3) routed the No. 12 Badgers (13-7-2) at Dobson to advance to a quarterfinal meeting
Danna Cravens had five saves for her 15th shutout, tying a school record.
MARCOS DE NIZA 6, AVONDALE WESTVIEW 4: Lisa Andreassen banged home a rebound for the first of two overtime goals and No. 12 Marcos (6-13) avenged narrow losses to the Knights each of the last two seasons by beating host Westview, the No. 5 seed.
Freshman Bianca Boller had four goals to raise her season total to 23 for the Padres, who next face Desert Mountain in the quarterfinals.
DESERT MOUNTAIN 4, PEORIA 1:
The host Wolves (13-9) broke a second-half tie with the No. 13 Panthers (11-10) when Kelly Block took a pass from Jalene Brandom, beat a defender and bounced a shot off the goalkeeper and the post to score.
Brandom and Michelle Watkins each had two assists and Mari Greenberg had two goals for No. 4 Desert Mountain, which next faces Marcos de Niza in the quarterfinals.
DESERT RIDGE 3, PARADISE VALLEY 2: Kirsten Birkhold tied the score with 30 seconds left for the ninth-seeded Trojans (10-10), but the host Jaguars, the No. 8 seed, converted a penalty kick in overtime to advance to a quarterfinal matchup with Tucson Flowing Wells.
In other matches, No. 11 Glendale Deer Valley beat No. 6 Phoenix North Canyon, 5-3; No. 7 Peoria Sunrise Mountain beat No. 10 Marana Mountain View, 3-2; No. 2 Glendale Ironwood beat No. 15 Avondale La Joya, 3-0; No. 1 Tucson Flowing Wells beat No. 16 Phoenix Central, 3-0; and No. 14 Glendale Sandra Day O’Connor beat No. 3 Peoria Centennial, 2-1.
CHAPARRAL 4, VAIL CIENEGA 1:
Kristi Ansboury scored the gamewinner on a header off a chip pass from Maggie Keafler from about 25 yards out and the sixth-seeded and host Firebirds (10-3) advanced to a quarterfinal meeting with Pinnacle.

ARCADIA 5, DOUGLAS 1: Ninthseeded Arcadia (7-6) made the most of a 4 1 /2-hour bus ride to Douglas by beating the eighthseeded Bulldogs.
The road-weary Titans took a little time to get going, but Danielle Madison’s penalty-kick goal in the 30th minute opened the floodgates and Katie Vanyo added two goals.
The win sets up a quarterfinal matchup with top-seeded Flagstaff.
HIGLEY 8, BUCKEYE 0: Danica Webb had four goals and the host Knights (21-0) stayed perfect.
No. 2 Higley next faces Notre Dame Prep in the quarterfinals.
CACTUS SHADOWS 6, DESERT EDGE 2: The host and third-seeded Falcons (13-7) got two goals from Caitlin Griffin to move into a quarterfinal matchup with Cottonwood Mingus.
NOTRE DAME PREP 1, PAGE 0: It took 100-plus minutes of action but the seventh-seeded Saints (13-7) toppled the No. 10 Sand Devils in a shootout to advance to the quarterfinals and a game against Higley.
Lindsay Standifer, Caitlin Nitta, Mari Paonessa and Noelle Rapisarda scored in the shootout for Notre Dame.
FLAGSTAFF 14, QUEEN CREEK 0:
Alyssa Miller scored four goals as host and top seed Flagstaff (18-4) made quick work of the 16th-seeded Bulldogs (6-9).
