Address: 1202 W. Thomas Road, Phoenix (Phoenix College); Records: Paradise Valley 3-3, 0-1 Desert Valley; St. Mary’s 5-1, 1-0; Gametime: 7:00 p.m.
Two teams come from opposite ends of the spectrum to meet at Phoenix College this week.
Paradise Valley was ripped apart last week by Brophy to open region play. The Trojans gave up seven scoring plays to the Broncos that averaged 20 yards each. The backfield machine of Michael Williams and Tomarcus Jordan averaged less than 3 yards per carry, en route to a combined 70 yards against the Broncos.
St. Mary’s returned to its ground game last week, rolling for 248 yards on 50 carries. Quarterback Aaron Verlinde was efficient, completing 7-of-10 pass attempts for 115 yards.
Despite Paradise Valley’s struggles, the Trojans are firmly entrenched in a playoff spot, currently sitting in sixth in the 5A-II power-point standings. St. Mary’s, which has only lost to unbeaten Westwood, is also sixth, but in the 5A-I power points.
