Prep roundup: Scottsdale Christian boys advance to finals

Bo Barnes scored 15 points to lead all scorers and Hayden Johnson added 11 to lead the Scottsdale Christian boys basketball team to a 48-41 win over host Phoenix Northwest Christian in the 2A Metro Regional semifinals Friday at Phoenix College.

With the win, the Eagles advanced to play the winner of Precision and Tucson Desert Christian today at 8:15 p.m.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Charles Ward scored a game-high 21 points to lead visiting Arcadia to a 76-69 victory over Higley in a 4A-II East Sky Region tournament game. Kip Kipkas had 17 points for the Titans and David Carroll added 16. Taylor Jackson led Higley with 19 points. …

Elliott Clark led all scorers with 17 points as Gilbert defeated visiting Mesquite in the final regular-season game for both teams in the 5A-I Fiesta Region. With the win, the Tigers (19-6, 6-2) finished as region co-champions. Kevin Soliz and Daniel Carter each added 10 points for the Tigers while Fabrice Nolen led Mesquite with 14 points. …

St. Mary’s knocked off Desert Mountain 73-61 to clinch a share of the 5A-I Desert Valley Region title. The Knights will host the region tournament on Tuesday and Thursday. …

Keawe Enos scored 20 points but host Red Mountain fell to Laveen Cesar Chavez 57-56 in a 5A-I nonregion matchup. Deonte Roberts added 16 points for the Mountain Lions (16-12).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Kaneesha Lee, Brittney Stacy and Kelsey Misseldine scored eight points each as Mesquite withstood a late comeback by visiting Gilbert and edged the Tigers 54-49 in the 5A-I Fiesta Region finale for both schools. Christina Green led Gilbert with 13 points. …

Alexis Gannis scored 12 points as Desert Vista defeated Mountain Pointe 52-33 in a 5A-I Central Region matchup. The Thunder (19-5, 6-0) clinched the outright region title. …

Davellyn Whyte led all scorers with 17 points as St. Mary’s beat Desert Mountain 59-36 in a 5A-I Desert Valley matchup. Gianne Flemming added 13 points for the Knights while Monique Machiz led the Wolves (15-13) with 16 points. St. Mary’s clinched the region title and will host the Desert Valley Region tournament on Wednesday and Friday. …

For the eighth time in nine tries, the Valley Christian girls basketball team advanced to the 2A Metro Region championship game, this time defeating Horizon Honors 40-30 at Phoenix College. The Trojans, led by Amy Frost’s 10 points, will play Pusch Ridge today at 6:30 p.m. …

Amanda Martin scored 32 points and Jenna Pearson added 11 points, 19 rebounds and six steals as Surrey Garden advanced to the 1A West Region championship with an 82-39 win over Phoenix Day School for the Deaf. The Knights will face Salome in the finals. …

Liberty Brittain scored 14 points but second-seeded Tempe Prep lost to Salome 47-34 in the semifinals of the 1A West Region tournament. Justine Wang added 10 points and Melissa Calahan had eight points and 13 rebounds for the Knights (20-9).
