12/21 - McGowan scores 16 to help Toros capture Las Vegas tournament

Brendan McGowan scored 16 points to lead Mountain View past Harvard-West Lake from North Hollywood (Calif.), 85-82, to win the Las Vegas Invitational Saturday.

Max Hall and David Burrows both scored 12 points for Mountain View (9-0).


MARCOS DE NIZA 68, TUCSON RINCON 67: Michael Brown, an alltournament selection, scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the Padres (8-3) beat the Rangers in the consolation final of the Horizon tournament.

Kal Bay added 12 points and eight assists for Marcos.

PAGE 60, RED MOUNTAIN 58: The host Sand Devils’ Alvin Smith hit a 3-pointer at the end of regulation to tie the game and then won it with a shot in the final seconds of the second overtime to beat the Mountain Lions in the championship game of the Navajo Generating Station Tournament.

Chris Geesling and David Hall each scored 15 points for Red Mountain (4-5), while Greg Bird added 13 points.

PHOENIX TREVOR BROWNE 97, CHANDLER 85: Joey Shaw scored a game-high 36 points for the Wolves (8-3), but it wasn’t enough as they fell to the Bruins in the championship game of the Phoenix Union Tournament. Derrick Richardson added 12 points for Chandler.


CORONADO 36, PHOENIX MARYVALE 32: Britney Strumer scored 13 points as the Coronado (7-7) girls won their fourth straight game, a victory over Phoenix Maryvale at Phoenix Camelback High School in the Phoenix Union Tournament.

MARCOS DE NIZA 72, PHOENIX SHADOW MOUNTAIN 48: Ashley Hardin had a triple-double with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals as the Padres (10-7) beat the Matadors. Sam Chittenden scored a team-high 19 points and Sarah Amos added 16 for the Padres in a Phoenix Union Tournament game.

SCOTTSDALE CHRISTIAN 37, PHOENIX ST. GREGORY 26: Wendy Woudenberg scored a game-high 16 points as the host Eagles (9-2) defeated the Hawks in a 2A non-region game.


The Aztecs withstood a 35-point performance by the Mustangs’ Marisa Stotler in a Black Division contest at the Nike Tournament of Champions at Chandler High School.

Lisa Helmers scored 26 points for Corona del Sol (9-5) and Sy Janousek (16 points) and Amy Rosenkrantz (13) also hit double figures.

DESERT RIDGE 57, GLENDALE INDEPENDENCE 40: Sam Enderle scored 23 points and Ashley Galentin added 19 as the Jaguars won the seventh-place game in the North Canyon Invitational.

BUCKEYE 44, ARCADIA 39: After a sluggish first half by both teams, the Hawks managed to pull away from the Titans (5-5) in the fourth quarter to win the third-place game of the North Canyon Invitational. Arcadia was led by Brittany Pihl’s 10 points and 10 rebounds.

SETON 61, FLAGSTAFF 58: Tina Wirth scored 32 points and pulled in 16 rebounds as the Sentinels (10-3) beat the Eagles and take third place in the Winslow Winter Classic.

HAMILTON 56, TIMPVIEW (UTAH) 35: Alissa Ingallina scored 11 points and had 11 rebounds as the Huskies (3-6) beat Timpview in a Nike Tournament of Champions game. Alma Maldonado and Angela Cuevas had 10 points each for Hamilton.
