Valley Christian’s boys and girls cross country teams had a field day Thursday as they swept the Chandler city cross country championship at Tumbleweed Park in Chandler.
The Trojan girls scored a 43 to defeat Basha (55), Seton Catholic (62), Chandler (86) and Hamilton (94).
Sisters Brielle Smith and Callan Smith were Valley Christian’s top runners for the meet, finishing third and fourth respectively, to help the Trojans end Seton’s two-year winning streak at the city meet.
Jessie Lopez (second place), sister Jamie (seventh) and Alex Gutting (eighth) all finished in the top 10 for the Sentinels.
Sydney Beatty took first place for Chandler, finishing with a time of 18.32.
On the boys side, Valley Christian scored 37 points and placed four runners in the top 10 to win the city meet for the third consecutive year.
Seton Catholic finished second with 63 points, followed by Chandler (66), Hamilton (76) and Basha (105).
Cameron Liston led the way for Valley Christian with a second-place finish, with Tim Mitchell (fourth), Daniel Doty (sixth) and Corey Botma (ninth) also contributing in the Trojans’ win.
Dan Bowen of Hamilton had the day’s best time of 16:07.
Seton’s Andrew Belus finished in third.
