02/09- Roundup: Benson, Corona slip past Desert Mtn.

T.J. Benson scored 14 points as Corona Del Sol edged Desert Mountain, 64-61, Saturday at Mountain Pointe High School in a game to determine seeding in the 5A Central Region tournament.

The Aztecs (11-15, 3-6) got 13 points each from Craig Borengasser and Dan Winterbottom as they wrapped up the region's fourth seed. Chad Goldstein scored 16 points and Perry Ullmann added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Wolves (15-12).

HIGLEY 56, QUEEN CREEK 41: Matt Belarde had a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the host Knights past the Bulldogs in a 2A Metro matchup.

VALLEY CHRISTIAN 61, PHOENIX CHRISTIAN 54: Paul Hardiman had 25 points as the Trojans (25-2, 17-1) topped the Cougars in 2A Metro game. Tim Kruge had 16 points for Valley Christian and Seth Robinson had 22 for Phoenix Christian.

SCOTTSDALE CHRISTIAN 105, HORIZON HONORS 30: Jesse Reeves scored 18 points and Kevin Coble added 17 as visiting Scottsdale Christian (25-4, 15-3) wrapped up regular-season 2A Metro play.

GIRLS BASKETBALL SALOME 38, TEMPE PREP 31: Sarah Leesman scored 13 points and Christa Leesman had 15 rebounds and six points as the host Frogs (4-2 region) fell to the Buffaloes (6-0 region) in 1A West action.

VALLEY CHRISTIAN 42, PHOENIX CHRISTIAN 36: Alex Robertson had 13 points for the Trojans (23-4, 15-1) against the Cougars in a 2A Metro region game.

Whitney Hanenburg scored 11 points and Jeniffer Ekstrand added 10 for Valley Christian.

SCOTTSDALE CHRISTIAN 59, HORIZON HONORS 17: Sophomore Wendy Woudenberg scored 19 points as Scottsdale Christian trounced host Horizon Honors in their final regular-season 2A Metro Region game.

Stephanie Fay pulled down nine rebounds for the Eagles (23-4, 13-3).
