Desert Mountain used a steady ground attack and swarming defense to dominate visiting Phoenix Carl Hayden 56-3 in their 5A-Division II game Friday night.

Desert Mountain's running game was led by sophomore James Rana, who ran for 120 yards on five carries and two touchdowns. Junior Jason Kramer added five carries for 80 yards and three touchdowns.

The Wolves (1-1) ran to an easy 49-3 halftime lead on 250 yards rushing.

Desert Mountain's stingy defense allowed just 91 yards and had three sacks, four forced fumbles and an interception.

Carl Hayden (0-2) couldn't get anything going on the ground, running for only six yards.

The Falcons were lead by senior quarterback Mario Huerta who had threw for 97 yards on 12-for-20 passing.
