VX football rankings as of Oct. 13:

1. Hamilton 6-2

2. Brophy 7-2

3. Mountain Pointe 7-1

4. Desert Ridge 7-1

5. Desert Vista 6-2

6. Chandler 6-2

7. Mountain View 6-2

8. Red Mountain 6-2

9. Basha 6-2

10. Westview 6-2

No one in the top 6 moved, although Chandler had real trouble putting away Corona del Sol until late. Mountain View moves up a spot after beating Highland and has won six straight. Red Mountain and Basha each move up a spot while Westview sneaks back in at No. 10. The Hawks drop out after a short stay in the rankings.

1. Ironwood Ridge 8-0

2. Centennial 7-1

3. Salpointe 8-1

4. Marcos de Niza 7-1

5. Cesar Chavez 8-0

6. Chaparral 5-3

7. Horizon 7-1

8. Apollo 7-1

9. Notre Dame 4-4

10. Perry 5-3

The top eight teams won comfortably to stick in their spots. Perry hung tough with Basha before succumbing late in a 34-14 loss. The Pumas only drop one spot while Notre Dame moves up one following an easy win over Cactus Shadows.

1. Saguaro 6-2

2. Sabino 8-0

3. Queen Creek 8-0

4. Desert Edge 8-0

5. Cactus 6-2

6. Williams Field 8-0

7. Thunderbird 5-3

8. Liberty 7-1

9. Sunrise Mountain 7-1

10. Paradise Valley 5-3

The top-3 remain constant, while Desert Edge moves up a spot with an impressive shutout of previously unbeaten Liberty. Cactus, Williams Field and Thunderbird all won and move up a spot because Liberty dropped from No. 4 to No. 8. Sunrise Mountain and Paradise Valley flip flop after their matchup on Friday night, in which the Trojans couldn’t hold on to a two-score second half lead in a 57-47 loss.

1. Blue Ridge 8-0

2. Show Low 9-0

3. Seton Catholic 7-1

4. Coolidge 7-1

5. Snowflake 6-2

The top four spots don’t change as all won in pretty convincing fashion. This sets up another epic Show Low vs. Blue Ridge matchup in the White Mountains this week, this time to be played at Blue Ridge. Mingus falls out after a 17-0 loss to Prescott, and that allows Snowflake to enter the fray despite Monument Valley being 8-0. Snowflake’s strength of schedule (games against Blue Ridge, Show Low, St. Johns and Winslow) was the deciding factor.

1. NW Christian 8-0

2. Yuma Catholic 7-1

3. Scottsdale Christian 7-1

4. Tempe Prep 6-2

5. Morenci 8-0

No changes here as everyone won out, but things could shuffle a bit next week. The annual Valley Christian-Scottsdale Christian rivalry resumes on Friday, though the Eagles are heavy favorites, while Morenci has a tough matchup with Willcox. Tempe Prep takes on San Tan Foothills (at Arizona Lutheran Academy H.S.) followed by the season finale against NW Christian on Oct. 26, the same night San Tan Foothills and Yuma Catholic face each other.

1. Pima 8-0

2. Scottsdale Prep 8-0

3. Mogollon 7-1

4. Joseph City 7-1

5. Joy Christian 8-0

The last set of Division VI rankings for the season remain the same as everyone in the top 5 won this week. The Div. VI playoffs begin on Friday night at the higher seeded school.
