Pinnacle running back Josh Hoekstra rushed 19 times for 290 yards and three touchdowns to break the Pioneers' school record for most rushing yards in a game in a 43-20 victory over visiting Cactus Shadows on Friday.

With Pinnacle holding on to a two-point lead in the third thanks in-part to a 99-yard kick return for a touchdown by Tyler Townsley, Hoekstra put the Pioneers on his back. He scored on a 45-yard touchdown run to make the score 29-20.

After Pinnacle running back Evan Thompkins scored on a 25-yard touchdown of his own to give the Pioneers (2-0) a 36-20 lead, Hoekstra scored from 45 yards out again to expand the Pinnacle lead and put the game out of Cactus Shadows’ reach for good.

After trailing by two points at halftime, the Falcons (0-2) came out firing through the air, and took a 20-15 lead when quarterback Bryce Kinsler found Kyle Gladstone on an 80-yard touchdown strike. Kinsler threw for 312 yards.

Cactus Shadows’ defense, however, had no answer for Hoekstra who ran the ball with ease, racking up 454 yards on 35 carries.

Hoekstra’s first score came on 48-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, a sign of things to come.

Brophy 35, Boulder Creek 14: Marche Dennard had 21 carries for 115 yards and a touchdown, while Tyler Bruggman threw for 118 yards and two touchdowns to lead Brophy to the win. The Broncos (2-1) started and finished the game strong with 14 points in both the 1st and 4th quarters as they played their third game in 10 days. With the loss, the Jaguars fell to 1-1 on the season.

Down 13-7 with 2:50 left in the game, Paradise Valley (2-0) began its drive at the 42-yard line as the marched 58 yards down the field, culminated by Finley’s game-winning pass.

Seton Catholic 48, Coronado 9: Seton Catholic’s no-huddle offense amassed 250 yards passing and 200 yards rushing as the Sentinels cruised to the win over visiting Coronado (0-2). When Seton’s offense wasn’t racing up and down the field, the defense picked off the Dons three times in the game. The Sentinels improved to 2-0 on the year.

San Tan Foothills 47, Canyon State 13: San Tan Foothills' Tyrine Blaise scored three touchdowns, including the opening kickoff of the second half, to run away from Canyon State.
