Phoenix Brophy continued its dominance Friday with a 42-0 victory over host Scottsdale Desert Mountain in a 5A Division I Desert Valley Region game.
The Broncos were led by junior running back Ray Polk, who had 11 carries for 145 yards and two touchdowns, one of which was a 73-yard run.
Brophy quarterback Bryan Berens had two touchdown passes and threw for 101 yards with one interception.
Brophy's defense also came up big with three interceptions, two by linebacker Steve Pursley.
Desert Mountain was led by quarterback Cory Campbell, who was 12-for-22 passing for 89 yards.
Brophy’s first score of the night, which came on a 5-yard pass from Berens to senior tight end Bart Stires, came after a fourth-and-one conversion at midfield during the first quarter.
Despite moving the ball upfield comfortably all night, the Broncos' offense was penalized eight times for 69 yards including five false start infractions. The Broncos totaled 10 penalties for 78 yards in the game. The Broncos' defense kept the Wolves attack minimal, allowing senior running back Taylor Wall only 24 yards on 10 carries. Wolves junior free safety Matt Del Galperio intercepted Berens on the Desert Mountain 19 which stopped another third quarter Brophy threat. On the ensuing possession by the Wolves, Campbell threw a interception to Pursley, his first of the night.
