Bernie Busken was easily approved as Basha's new football coach and physical education teacher by the Chandler Union School District governing board on Wednesday night.
Busken's hire was part of a unanimous vote by the board for all human resources-related transactions, including hiring, retirements and reductions.
Busken returns to the East Valley after leaving Mountain View in 2002. He won three state championships with the Toros and won a 5A record 40 consecutive games, but was dismissed after a Mesa district investigation revealed repeated violations of player abuse and misconduct.
He's coached at a couple high schools since leaving Mesa, and made stops at Southern Utah as an assistant, and, most recently, the head coach at Western New Mexico.
Principal Ken James was in attendance, as he often is. Busken was not.
