Desert Mountain wins twice in the Central-East Valley-Fiesta baseball tournament.

Desert Mountain completed a perfect week of play Thursday afternoon, holding on to edge Mountain View 3-2 in the Central-East Valley-Fiesta Baseball Tournament at McClintock High School.

Mike Dufek pitched six innings of onehit ball and Jeff Fox had two hits and drove in a run to pace the Wolves (12-1) to the victory. Desert Mountain was 5-0 in the tournament. Earlier in the day Desert Mountain knocked off Dobson, 11-4. Hayden Parrot collected a single, double and home run and drove in two runs. Taylor Hubbell added two hits and three RBIs, including a two-run homer. Eric Henkel drove in three runs for Dobson (7-8).

Mountain View (7-6) completed the tournament with a 4-1 record. The Toros defeated Desert Vista 5-2 in their first game Thursday. Matt Shannon, Sam Shreeve and Shane Robinson combined to shut down the Desert Vista offense. In other tournament games Thursday at McClintock, the host Chargers topped Basha 8-1 with Vincente Pineira, Adam Foster and Patrick Martin collecting two hits apiece. Mountain Pointe blanked Skyline 11-0.


Red Mountain’s Dean Espy had a home run and two RBIs in their win over Chandler, 5-4. Sean Lewis went 2-for-2 with two RBI for the Wolves. . . .

Behind Gian Gregorio’s complete game, 11 strike out performance, visting Higley defeated Cesar Chavez, 8-6, Thursday night. The Knights’ T.J. Roach went two hits, which included a homerun and four RBI.. . . .

Jon Varrelman had two big games as Gilbert defeated Marcos de Niza, 16-7 and Westwood 9-2. In the Tigers. first game against Marcos, Mike Dibiasi went 3-3 with four RBI to go along with Varrelman’s two hits and two RBI. Against Westwood, Varrelman added two hits, a double, a grand slam, and five RBIs. . . .

Jesse Hudson went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and four RBIs to lead Mountain View to a 5-2 victory over Desert Vista in the Central-East Valley-Fiesta Tournament at McClintock High School. Starting pitcher Matt Shannon earned the win the for the Toros (7-6). . . . Seth Furmanek had a double and two RBIs and Nolan Church whad two RBIs to lead host Mesquite to a 6-4 win over Corona del Sol in the Central-East Valley-Fiesta Tournament. The Wildcats (12-2-1) went undefeated in the tournament, racking up six straight victories. . . .

Mike Ford and Dan Black each drove in three runs to lead Mountain Pointe to an 11-0 win over Skyline at the McClintock-Marcos de Niza Tournament.

Phil Konieczny went 2-for-3 with a homer and two walks in the win. . . .

Tim Alderson struck out 14 in a complete-game shutout to lead Horizon to a 7-0 win over visiting Paradise Valley.

Alderson also finished 3-for-4with a double and three RBIs.


Cheylynn Mayer singled in Brittany Moore for the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning to lift Paradise Valley to a 4-3 win over Desert Mountain.. . . .

Janelle Alvarez pitched a complete game and went 3-for-4 to help host Queen Creek beat Cortez 14-7 to get its first win of the season. Christy Marin had two RBIs for the Bulldogs. . . .

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Seton Catholic’s Julie Hershkowitz knocked in the game-winning run to beat Coolidge, 4-3. Hershkowitz (2-1) also pitched a complete game and had three strikeouts. . . . Mackenzie Popescue struck out eight and allowed just three hits for a complete-game win in host Chaparral’s 5-2 win over Coronado.
