The Phoenix Greenway defense didn't just on Superman's cape. It ripped the whole thing off in a show of bravado, shutting down potential all-state running back Travis Huff in a 45-0 dismantling of Scottsdale Coronado Friday night.
Huff, the cornerstone of the Dons' attack, was limited to minus-2 yards in the first half on four carries and managed just 14 yards total for the game, a testament to Greenway head coach Mike Brown's swarming defense.
"We broke down two games and he carried the ball 63 times," Brown said. "Obviously, he's a great back. We keyed on him … but we wanted them to beat us with someone else."
The Demons (3-0) limited Coronado to just 72 yards on the game, including seven rushing yards on eight carries in the first half. Matching Greenway's potent defense was a solid offense, commanded by junior Greg Walton.
Walton ran for two touchdowns and threw for another, leading a rushing attack that finished the game with 222 yards on 49 carries, controlling the tempo of the game throughout. Greenway also picked up two touchdowns from Corbin Jones and scores from John Weaver and Chase Harpole.
