Mesquite’s Seth Fretheim hit for the cycle, recording four of the Wildcats' 15 hits to led them to a 12-10 victory over host Gilbert on Tuesday.
Fretheim finished 4-for-5 from the plate and knocked in 5 RBI in the win. Teammates Casey Howard (4-for-4 with a home run) and Jon Ferrendelli (2-for-3 with a home run), helped Mesquite (18-6) grab the early lead, scoring nine runs in the first three innings.
The Tigers (16-10) battled back and scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Wildcats’ lead to 10-9, but two more runs in the top of the seventh gave Mesquite breathing room for pitcher Tanner Wilson (3-1) needed to ice the game in the bottom of the inning.
Gilbert starting pitcher Justin McCallister took the loss, but led the Tigers in hitting, finishing 3-for-5 on the night.
