Phoenix Brophy senior lineman Trent Murphy confirmed Monday night that he gave a verbal commitment to Stanford.
Murphy, a 6-foot-6, 235-pound all-Desert Valley region defensive end, made his committment Sunday, a day after Brophy's 16-6 season-opening victory against Las Vegas Bishop Gorman, in which he had a sack and blocked a kick.
Murphy played through a severe knee injury last season, but became part of a dominant Broncos defense en route to the school's second 5A Division I state championship in three years.
Murphy also considered Arizona State, Arizona and Colorado, but was won over by Stanford's academics and coach Jim Harbaugh.
