Former Mesa High and Phoenix Desert Vista football coach Jim Rattay has resigned his head coaching position at Phoenix Christian after six seasons, the coach said Thursday.

Rattay said he enjoyed his tenure as coach there, which included two 2A state titles (2003 and 2004).

“I felt this was a good time to explore my options,” Rattay said. “I had a great experience and worked with great people there in a Christian atmosphere.”

Rattay has coached at Mesa, Desert Vista and Phoenix Christian in his time in Arizona beginning at Mesa in 1985. He won two titles there (1990 and 1992). He added the third of five state titles in Arizona in 1998 while starting Desert Vista’s program. His record in six seasons at Phoenix Christian is 56-17.

The 5A Arizona Coaches Association all-state team has 14 players and the 4A squad nine who attend local East Valley schools.

5A local selections are: Phoenix Brophy quarterback Bryan Berens and linebacker Matt Padilla; Chandler Hamilton offensive lineman Kyland Resor and wide receiver Gerell Robinson; Chandler defensive lineman Dion Jordan and defensive back Marc Anthony; Mesa Mountain View defensive lineman Buddy Koozer and punter Kyle Jenkins; Mesa Red Mountain linebacker Austin Mapes; Corona del Sol offensive lineman Trevor Stapp; Tempe Marcos de Niza running back Harrison Evens; Mesa defensive back Kyree Hart; and Phoenix Desert Vista defensive lineman Devon Kennard and return specialist Allante Battle.

Selected to the 4A team: Scottsdale Saguaro quarterback Tim Ruben; offensive linemen Derek Bisgard and Joe Kellogg and defensive lineman Chris Merrill; Scottsdale Chaparral defensive lineman Craig Roh; wide receiver Mike Cummings and return specialist Deveron Carr; Tempe McClintock linebacker David Blair and Paradise Valley defensive back Dylan Borys.
