VX Roundup 3/29: Farendelli leads Mesquite past Chandler

Mesquite beat Chandler, 5-3, in a Division I Section II matchup on Thursday.

Tanner Wilson improved to 2-0 in six innings pitched for the Wildcats. John Farendelli had two home runs and three RBI for Mesquite. Alex Hennessey finished 2-for-4 for the Wolves. Chandler led 1-0 after the first inning but that was their only lead of the game.

In other baseball action, Corona del Sol beat Pinnacle, 4-1, in a non-section game. Ryan Riley finished 2-for-3 with a triple to lead the Aztecs. Corona took advantage of its opportunities as the Aztecs scored four runs on just five hits.

Host-Mountain View beat Horizon, 10-2, in a Division I Section III game. Zack Hyzdu had three RBI to lead the Toros while Jeff Wooton and Jacob Boehme added two RBI each.

Softball

Host-Chandler beat Mesquite, 8-7, in a Division I Section II game. Alexus Ybarra had the game-winning hit in the seventh inning, her only hit of the game (1-4). Domi Shone had two RBI for the Wildcats.

Ashley Palmer had a monster game for Desert Mountain as the host Wolves beat Chaparral, 11-4. Palmer finished 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI. Cheyann Tucker added two RBI.

Red Mountain had no problem with Highland in a 16-0 win in Division I Section II. Ashley Hill had five RBI and Marian Ruf finished with three RBI. The Lions led 12-0 after just two innings.

Boys Volleyball

Ryan Morrison led host-Highland with seven kills as the Hawks beat Tucson Ironwood Ridge, 25-16, 25-23, 25-14. Jared Green added six kills, four blocks and seven digs while Collin Ward finished with 28 assists for Highland (6-1).
