03/09 - Johnson knocks in 4 runs as Corona del Sol trounces Mountain Ridge

Braden Johnson went 2-for-5 with a double, home run and four RBIs as Corona del Sol blasted Glendale Mountain Ridge (5-1), 16-2, Saturday to win the Corona del Sol Aztec Invitational. Russell Teames went 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs and Ben Rodriguez had three hits and two RBIs for the Aztecs (4-2).

MOUNTAIN POINTE 16, TEMPE 1: J.J. Sferra went 4-for-4 with three RBIs as the host Pride routed the Buffaloes. Vick Segles added three hits and four RBIs, and Colin Porterfield allowed just one hit for Mountain Pointe. In other tournament games, Westwood beat Mountain Pointe 3-2, and Corona del Sol topped the Pride, 5-4.

McClintock Classic

MCCLINTOCK 7, COTTONWOOD MINGUS 3: Brian Nohren went 4-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs to lead the host Chargers (5-1) past the Marauders. Aaron Amos and Brandon Nohren each added two hits for McClintock.

MCCLINTOCK 15, CASA GRANDE 2: Nohren had two doubles and three RBIs to lead the host Chargers over the Cougars. Rich McKinley went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Justin Anderson improved his record to 2-0.

Scottsdale Quarterback Club Tournament

GILBERT 8, SAGUARO 6: Austin Johansen knocked in two runs in the top of the ninth to lead the visiting Tigers (6-2) past the Sabercats (2-5). Eric Hibbard added a triple and an RBI.

HORIZON 7, HAMILTON 6: Brandon Wood hit a three-run homer as visiting Horizon came from five down. Beau Polvorosa added a three-run double for Horizon, while C.J. Retherford had a home run for Hamilton (5-3).

Apache Junction First-pitch, Last-out Woodbat Classic

GLOBE 4, APACHE JUNCTION 2: In the title game, the host Prospectors (3-2) got RBI hits from Casey Dick and Mike Nagel but that was not enough to beat the Tigers (4-1).

DESERT RIDGE 10, PEORIA CENTENNIAL 4: The Jaguars (3-4) notched their third straight win, as Trent Manzanares and Ryan Brown each went 2-for-4.

SETON 13, QUEEN CREEK 2: Sean Reilly went 3-for-4 with four RBIs to lead the visiting Sentinels (3-1-1) over the Bulldogs. Stan Minatogawa added a triple and three RBIs for Seton.

SCOTTSDALE CHRISTIAN 14, FREDONIA 1: Steven Stefani struck out nine to lead the visiting Eagles past the Lynx. Jordan Isaac had three hits for Scottsdale Christian. In other games, Seth Rutt went 2-for-4 with three RBIs as the visiting Eagles (4-4) cruised past Valley Lutheran, 18-0. The Eagles lost, 7-2, to Green Fields.

VALLEY CHRISTIAN 14, GRAND CANYON 0: Stephen Zehring did not allow a hit in three innings as the visiting Trojans cruised past the Phantoms. Jared Wilson had a double and two RBIs to lead Valley Christian.

PHOENIX BOURGADE 5, VALLEY CHRISTIAN 4: Matt Wilda had a pair of hits to lead the visiting Eagles over the Trojans (4-1). Nathan Papadeas went 1-for-1 with an RBI for Valley Christian.
