Mountain Pointe's Michael Moore rushed for a school record 337 yards as the host Pride cruised to a 60-12 victory Friday over 5A Central Region foe Corona Del Sol.
The senior ran into the record books on his fifth and final touchdown run, a 35-yarder in the third quarter. According to school officials, the previous mark was 298 yards. Moore broke the record without attempting a rush in the fourth quarter.
“It was fun,” Moore said. “I wanted to try and break the state record but coach wouldn't let me.”
The Pride (4-4, 3-0) led the Corona del Sol Aztecs (3-5, 0-2) 7-6 before reeling off 39 unanswered points. In addition to Moore's five touchdowns, quarterback Brad Falk tossed touchdown passes to Travis Hardee and Sam Nielsen.
Mountain Pointe will take on Ahwatukee rival Desert Vista next Friday with the region title at stake.
Desert Vista stayed unbeaten in Region with a 58-0 win over Kofa.
"I can't wait for it," Moore said of the match up next week.
Matt Mosely ran for 69 yards and a touchdown for the Aztecs.
