Outlook: Coach Tony Tabor is off to a good start in trying to resurrect a downtrodden program at Desert Mountain.

Corona, however, should prove a tougher matchup than the Wolves’ first two games (Maryvale and Carl Hayden). Still, the Wolves haven’t won three games in a few years. One of the improvements has been at quarterback, where Cory Campbell has thrown seven touchdowns with no turnovers, and James Rana is averaging more than six yards per carry.

Despite the ugly second-half against Gilbert last week, Corona coach Gary Venturo isn’t fretting. Noting his team was tied at halftime and had chances to make a move in the third quarter, two turnovers in the fourth quarter proved costly. “We’ll be fine,” Venturo said. “We just need to make better decisions and other small things that can be fixed.”

Address: 1001 E. Knox Road, Tempe

Records: Desert Mountain 2-0; Corona del Sol 1-1

Last year’s meeting: Corona del Sol 7, Desert Mountain 3
