Down by one run in the bottom of the seventh with a runner on second, Valley Christian freshman Larae Hunt hit her first career home run to defeat visiting Phoenix Country Day 9-8, Thursday.

In a wacky back and forth affair that saw both teams combine for 14 errors, the Eagles scored four runs in the sixth inning to take an 8-7 lead into the ninth.

They held that lead until Hunt, with one on and one out, hit a shot that just cleared the left field wall.

Hunt’s sister, Jenelle, had an up and down outing, but was able to shutout Phoenix Country Day in the ninth to keep the game close and pick up the win for the Trojans (7-5).

Larae went 2-for-5 for the with a double and three RBI to go along with her home run.

Sophie Labelle went 2-for-4 from the plate for the Eagles.
