12/05 - Girls basketball roundup: Trojans edge Coyotes

Danielle Sulzer had nine points and teammate Brittany Beasley added eight points as host Paradise Valley beat Skyline 39-31 in a 5A non-region girls basketball game Thursday. Ashleigh Schoonover led all scorers with 12 points for the Coyotes (0-8).

MOUNTAIN POINTE 69, DESERT MOUNTAIN 36: Nicole Anders had 10 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists while leading the Pride (5-3) over the host Wolves.

VALLEY CHRISTIAN 78, HORIZON HONORS 6: Jennifer Ekstrand had 14 points as the host Trojans (4-0, 2-0) beat the Eagles (1-1, 0-1) in a 2A Metro region game.

PEORIA CENTENNIAL 45, ARCADIA 37: Antonia Carreon had 12 points to lead the host Coyotes over the Titans (3-2) in a 4A non-region matchup. Brittany Pihl led Arcadia with 14 points.

TEMPE PREP 44, BABOQUIVARI 41:

Sarah Leesman had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the visiting Knights (3-0) in the first round of the Phoenix Christian Girls Holiday Hoops tournament.

SCOTTSDALE CHRISTIAN 38, AJO 20: Wendy Woudenberg had a game-high 18 points as the host Eagles (1-1) downed the Red Raiders in the Desert Classic.

SCOTTSDALE CHRISTIAN 34, YUMA CATHOLIC 26: Wendy Woudenberg had 22 points to lead the host Eagles (2-1) past the Shamrocks in the Desert Classic.

GLENDALE IRONWOOD 48, HORIZON 40: Rachel Majuwski had 21 points as the host Eagles (2-0) defeated the Huskies (3-4) in a 5A nonregion matchup. Carrie Beaumont led Horizon with 21 points.

AVONDALE AGUA FRIA 64, FOUNTAIN HILLS 30: Katherine Ashley had nine points, but the host Falcons (0-3) fell to the Owls in the Dysart Tournament.

MARCOS DE NIZA 59, MESA 32:

Ashley Hardin had eight points, nine rebounds and eight assists to lead the visiting Padres (4-4) past the Jackrabbits in a 5A non-region matchup. Crystal Herrera led Mesa with 12 points.

RED MOUNTAIN 54, HAMILTON 39:

Nicole Childers had 24 points and six rebounds as the visiting Mountain Lions defeated the Huskies (1-1) in a 5A non-region matchup. Kayla Pedersen added 11 points for Red Mountain, while Alissa Ingallina had 16 to lead Hamilton.

DOLBIE 83, CHANDLER 38: Rachel Fuqua had 12 points as the Wolves fell to Dolbie in the U.S. Air Force Lone Star Invitation held in San Antonio.

MONUMENT VALLEY 75, DOBSON 47: Ashley Moore had 12 points as the visiting Mustangs (2-1) fell to Monument Valley in the first round of the Navajo Generating Station Tournament in Page.

HIGHLAND 50, PHOENIX SOUTH MOUNTAIN 18: Sarah Hays had 13 points as the visiting Hawks (5-2) topped the Jaguars in a 5A nonregion game.

PHOENIX ST. MARY’S 83, CORONA DEL SOL 41: Nicole Neals had a game-high 19 points as the host Knights defeated the Aztecs. Amy Rosenkrantz led Corona with 14 points.
