Bill you just gave us 20 or so reasons of corrupt cops and why we shouldn't trust the police.
I can give you another 20 or so reasons of corrupt cops and why we shouldn't trust the police.
The title of this article should have been
YOU CAN'T TRUST THE POLICE
and the only way you can spare yourself from being abused by the crooked cops on the police force is to understand that.
When you are dealing the the police it's like dealing with a mafia thug. The only difference is the mafia thug knows he is a criminal.5 days ago
The main purpose of police unions are to allow police officers to receive the most amount of pay and benefits for the least possible amount of work.
Police unions are adversaries of the taxpayers and governments that the police officers work for.
But of course that isn't bad, and should be expected because the reason police officers join police unions is to improve their pay. And the police officers pay the union to do that work for them.
And one of the techniques that police unions use to get more money for police officers is to use the myth that being a cop is a very, very, very dangerous.
As I said before any job that required driving is a dangerous job, because thousands of people die every year in traffic accidents. And cops, like mailmen, taxi drivers, pizza delivery guys, garbage truck drivers have a dangerous job simply because they drive.
But being a cop, mailman, taxi driver, pizza delivery guy, or garbage truck driver doesn't come close to being a really dangerous job.
The most dangerous jobs in America, year in and year out are fishermen, loggers and construction workers.
And the most dangerous jobs when it comes to being murdered on the job is not police officers, but convenience store clerks and liquor store clerks.
But of course the police unions get upset when you point out their myth that being a police officer is a really, really, really dangerous jobs. And they try to paint the messenger as a police hater, instead of admitting, that being a cop isn't the really, really dangerous job they made it out to be.2 weeks ago
At the Federal level marijuana was made illegal in 1937 with the passage of the "1937 Marihuana Tax Act"
During World War II marijuana was actually re-legalized to help the war effort.
No it wasn't to allow the American troops to get a good high off of the drug.
It was because marijuana or hemp is a really great raw material to make rope and cloth from. And that rope and cloth was used in the war effort.
As sockratties pointed out the cotton growers supported the laws making marijuana illegal because it put their competitors, the hemp farmers out of business.
And if you go back in history many of the Founders grew marijuana, again not to get high from, but because hemp or marijuana is a great raw material to make rope and cloth from.
In fact Thomas Jefferson grew so much of marijuana on his plantations, that he if did it today he would be sentenced to life in prison for being a major drug trafficker.

I'm sorry that was a typo. I meant to say
What a person does or looks at in the privacy of the bedroom should NOT be any business of some government nanny and censor.2 weeks ago
Why thank you Leon Ceniceros for that comment.
I have said for years that we should re-legalize ALL drugs, not just marijuana.
I agree with you 100 percent that it's time to re-legalize cocaine, meth, opium, heroin, LSD and magic mushrooms.
The were all perfectly legal in the USA until the religious nut jobs who think if something is fun should be illegal got the 1914 Harrison Narcotic Tax Act passed.
And yes, I also think that porn should be legal too. What a person does or looks at in the privacy of the bedroom should be any business of some government nanny and censor.

In the article Bill Richardson perpetuates the myth that being a police job is dangerous because you may be killed by criminals.
Any job that requires driving a vehicle is a dangerous job. Mailmen, truck drivers, cabbies, newspaper delivery men and cops all drive cars as part of their jobs and the driving of a car makes it a dangerous job.
Let's face it thousands of Americans die every year in traffic accidents and that makes any job that requires driving a dangerous jobs. And a police officer is one of those jobs.
But if you look at the top 10 most dangerous jobs being a police officer rarely falls into the top 10. I can remember only once when being police officer made the top 10 and it was 7th on the list.
Year in and year out being a fisherman, construction worker and a lumberjack are the top 3 most dangerous jobs in American according to statistics put out by the US Government.
While sometimes cops are murdered on the job most criminals are smart enough not to rob an armed police officers. Criminals don't pick on armed people that can defend themselves and the preferred victims of criminals are unarmed civilians who can't defend themselves.
The jobs with the highest murder rates year in and year out are clerks in Circle Ks, 7/11s and liquor stores.
So if you want to thank somebody for risking their live so you can lead a better life, thank a fisherman, logger or construction worker. They risk their lives to feed you and provide shelter for you.

Wow! A 23 percent tax on every purchase you make is a "Fair Tax"???
After the 16th Amendment was passed the income tax started out as a lousy 1 percent on rich people who made $3,000 in 1913 which was about $60,000 in 2013 dollars.
The tax maxed out at 6 percent for people who made $500,000 or more.
Congress even debated at capping the tax at a max rate of 10 percent, something they thought would be outrageous if the income tax rate ever jumped that high.
You can verify those numbers on this 2 page 1913 income tax form at the IRS site.
Of course now even if you make minimum wage the Feds withhold 10 percent of your income for taxes.
Last but not least just like there is no fair form of rape or fair form of murder, there is no such thing as a "fair tax".
Taxes are stealing, even if they are stolen by a bunch of crooks in Congress who wear 3 piece suites and call themselves "public servants".3 weeks ago
Was the criminal a marijuana smoker???
If the cops thought the criminal was a person committing the victimless crime of using marijuana they probably would have sent out at least six or seven squad cars trying to find and arrest him.
The police have their priorities totally scr*wed up and would rather arrest people for the victimless crime of smoking a joint, rather then arresting people for real crimes like shoplifting.1 month ago
Sadly it seems like the Tempe police are more concerned with arresting people for victimless crimes like this, then hunting down real criminals who hurt people.
And of course if the Tempe police do arrest the kids who did this good deed, it will discourage people from doing it in the future.
Sadly the police are the "problem", not the solution to the "problem"1 month ago
