Societies through time have defined their mores and now is no different. As mentioned by Kolbe, American society once defined marriage as between men and women only of the same race. American society, through the courts, redefined marriage to include interracial couples. Now, in 2013, American society is poised to redefine marriage once again. To state we cannot change the definition of marriage is to ignore our history, not embrace it.2 months ago
I would ask what exactly you are doing to effect a change in America's values other than post letters on EVT. Perhaps the values of Americans are not changing at all but the manifestation of those values such as tolerance for those whose race, beliefs, gender, or sexual orientation may differ from one's own is now being realized. If Americans' values are reflected in election results, then it must be the case that Americans reject the policies of politicians with whom they disagree on those fundamental values. That President Obama has now won two presidential contests suggests that he is not out of touch with mainstream Americans' values but reflects them. 3 months ago
I haven't read enough of your articles to know what sorts of legislation qualifies as nanny stateish. Nanny State is a cute term but I'd welcome your full exposition as to where the line is drawn between providing for the general welfare and nanny state. Are you up to it?4 months ago
Unless the job descriptions of principals and staff are now to include an ability and willingness to kill another person, Patterson's idea seems to be an infringement on those people's individual liberties. Why should they be compelled to act as a law enforcement officer or military personnel if they do not wish to do so? Freedom is sacred in America. Mr. Patterson seems to have no regard for freedoms when they do not suit his argument.4 months ago
If you don't like the City Hall and didn't like it when it was first put before the voters, you should have voted the council out then! Quit whining now. A majority of Chandler voters wanted the new City Hall. The elections for the past 5 years prove that. You lost that battle.
For those of you who can write nothing but hatred for people different from yourself, you betray your pathetic nature. If the only way you can feel good about yourself is to denigrate others, blogging your insecurities away won't work. Oct 10, 2010
