THIS is where liberals have taken us in the public school system--completely on the wrong track, out of touch with reality and common sense.
When my son was in elementary school, he told me (years later) about something that happened to him. There was a kid that was regularly picking on him. Staff saw it, and both were sent to the administration. Their "solution" to the problem was for them to go on a "friendship walk". What that entailed was that they missed class in order to be on trash pickup duty together.
Are you kidding me?! What is wrong with this picture? What happened to the days of punishment for the offender, calling parents for a meeting and after school detention or work detail. You can't tell me that this is a viable solution to today's problems!6 months ago
I thought the interview with the chair was a little dramatic, but a good message. What do you expect from a lifetime actor? The answer to soricobob is, yes, it matters if it is cut. Nobody wants to see Big Bird go, but it has been 40 years of funding. Isn't it time Big Bird grow up and become financially independent? The company is only raking in 130 million dollars a year! That is the American dream, isn't it? Not waiting for Daddy to fork over some more money because you don't want to pay for it yourself.7 months ago
Come on, Romney!

To "Engaged Voter" he can say what he wants, but he doesn't have the right to block paying customers. "I am all excited about getting my FREE water, as I wait here for 20 minutes in line!..." Give me a break!

To the person who drew this cartoon, you have it completely wrong. Budget cuts aren't the bully...god knows that there is unnecessary spending going on in the school districts. Instead of taxing more, re-evaluate what is already being spent and redirect funds from a no longer needed/wanted program to one that is necessary...books, janitor services, kleanex (for heaven's sake) and cleaning products to cut down on disease. We can purchase our own paper, pencils, crayons, etc for our individual kids. Cut out the technology spending that is outdated in 3 years, and breaks down regularly, or...administration salaries. Hmm, there is an idea!10 months ago
Full time job, and full time money means full time politician. There is more chance that their motivation is for career advancement, not the good of the people.10 months ago
Does this mean the program has been re-organized (not racially motivated), or just starting over with the same curriculum again??10 months ago
James, you will never get your money back. Start practicing the words, "No, you will will have to figure it out yourself. The bank of Dad is closed."
Since my boys were little, this became a regular word. Originally, we had a real tight budget, and I had to answer them when they pulled some toy off the shelf at the grocery store. I have had parents snicker in response as we were standing in line having this conversation. Now that they are older they ask, "I know you are going to say 'No,' but I'm going to ask anyways." They still might not get the whole gist of why I won't pay for their 5th bag of underwear when they leave theirs out of the laundry basket for the dog to chew holes into. They can use their own money for that, but Christmas is just around the corner;)
No really, you are the parent. Say no, and don't let any guilt trips persuade your answer. She will never learn if you don't teach it to her. Being responsible with money is a good thing. You learn to appreciate what you have, when there are times you don't have any.10 months ago
The border patrol were doing there job. Though the next time they are having a senior waiting in high heat, they should have him in a cool place until they could confirm what was going on.10 months ago
