I think that tattoos should be protected by the first amendment because it is simply another way for us to express ourselves and the views that we have. The tattoos that we put on our bodies are a physical representation of those views. Most tattoos have strong meaning behind them that allow us to represent something that is close to our heart. What is important to you may be different than what is important to someone else, which is the same as what someone may want to say may be different than what you want to say. The first amendment allows us to have the freedom of speech and everyone says a picture is worth a thousand words, so why are tattoos not seen as another representation of our freedom of speech. The tattoos we get and the parlors that provide them to us should be protected by our first amendment, and not regulated by the government.
