• I understand why families need to buy homes, but so many single people do. Why? You lose money over the long run...unless you buy your house for cash...which nearly 100% of all homeowners are capable of doing (especially younger ones). Yeah, I have to say, I'm glad I never bought a house. I sympathize for the GOOD homeowners who actually pay their debts without additional pay day loans and aren't dirtbags who get no assistance, but houses can no longer be used as an ATM.

• Most student loans in the US are backed by the government and carry a fixed rate of interest determined by Congress but there is also a large private market where rates have remained high despite low overall interest rates. The Obama administration has pushed hard to make it easier to refinance a mortgage but so far there has been little action on student loans. The nature of the problems is similar: low quality servicing and a lack of competition for refinancing makes it hard for borrowers to take advantage of low interest rates performed by some lenders online.

• I don't doubt that some people look to these loans to bail out their over spending habits, but truly some people look to these loans for the short term use for emergencies. As long as the consumer's demand for these type of services, the Payday loan lenders will be there to supply the needed service, that consumers are demanding. The world revolves around "Supply and Demand." I wish our economy would straighten up and Supply those who need jobs the opportunity to thrive again. I think a big mistake was bailing out banks, do you see the government bailing out payday lenders? NO! So, If the Big Banks want to RISK providing these payday loans, then they need to assume the loses along with the risk they are taking, to do so.

• Since June, the food prices have risen so much in my area, that all of a sudden I’m finding I cannot afford to eat for half the month. I’m not doing anything different, the prices have just plain skyrocketed. I cannot afford fresh fruits and veggies at all now. And the first thing I’ll be doing this week is cutting down my cable tv and phone bill. And hope that helps me to be able to afford to eat again. It’s really getting very scary. Many of us cannot grow our own food. We live in apartment buildings. It leaves us pretty stuck. I hope I won't have to apply for payday advances to buy food.

• It is amazing how quickly revisionist history is created these days. I agree that times were good 15 years ago, but they were also pretty good just 6 or 7 years ago as well. Let us not forget that the greatest sucesses that Bill Clinton achieved was under a Republican Congress, House and Senate. I will admit that Clinton showed a remarkable ability to turn his policies almost 180 degrees following the 1994 mid-terms. From that point came the success track. But behind the scenes, it was Clinton who brokered the repeal of the Glass-Steagal Act. It was Clinton who dusted off the Community Reinvestment Act, and appointed Franklin Raines to head Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac. Thus, it was Clinton who gave birth to the sub-prime mortgage market commencing in about 1997/1998. This was the catalyst that started this snowball rolling downhill. President Bush went to Congress at least 3 times to yank in the reins on Fannie and Freddie, only to be blocked by the likes of Dodd/Frank and Maxine Waters. People need changes because they are just tired of relying on cash advance providers.

• Even just 10 years ago, the pell grant covered the majority of college costs for those with merit who do not come from wealth. Now? It covers just a small fraction. The incentive to go to school and further educate one's self beyond high school has been fractioned as well. We tell kids if they work hard and do well in school, it'll pay off -- but is that true anymore? Just look at how many young adults graduate from college and end up underemployed in a job they could have gotten in high school. Over half of them end up in that kind of a circumstance. Couple that with the rising cost of education, I can see why they're protesting over this. They are just tired of taking out online loans in order to make payments on their student loans.

• The damage has been done and the horse has long ago left the barn. What in the world will Senate Committee investigations do, other that provide political theater or political cover for the guilty. The federal government should NOT be in the business of giving taxpayer money away to any of these nonsensical activities. Why do we continue to send our hard-earned tax cash advance to Washington, only to have some bureaucrat stupidly decide on how to dole them back to their favorite project (after the inefficiency and corruption have skimmed off the cream), and then investigate (on taxpayer dollars) who's guilty (only to find no one guilty). Washington has turned into a giant charade and we, taxpayers, continue to fund this nonsense.

• As for me the regulation of payday loan industry hasn't bring almost any results. Now even big banks offer a kind of payday loans with high rates and no one measure the service. Besides, a lot of people working at the lending stores have lost their jobs as the lenders of cash advance have just close the doors for consumers due to the sufficient loss of profit caused by the new limits. Besides, there are a lot of alternatives to payday loans which are not so strictly regulated. I can't understand what was the perpose of the lawmakers capping the interest rates on paycheck loans.
