• Good Job mentioning keyloggers. Everyone is giving password advice lately and most are not mentioning them. Passwords are our business, so I'd like to add some Healthy Password Tips. There are four good ways to manage passwords: 1. A system and your brain (formula approach). 2. A password manager. 3. Password Scramblers (hashers). 4. Password Books or notes. For most people a mix of these four things is best. Because of the risk of key-loggers, we don't recommend the use of password managers for your highest risk sites, such as Finance, Tax preparation, Medical or dating. For these use your brain and a formula. Based system. We recommend the password sandwich (you can find more on this at healthy passwords), but any system will do. Its fine to use a password book or notes for these also. In fact, you should keep a copy with your will. For low risk sites, we recommend a bad password that you really don't care about. It should be better than password or 123456, but it should be something you really don't care who sees it. The important thing is that this is used for low risk sites where you cannot lose money or reputation of your own or someone else. If it's not highest risk or low risk, it's moderate. For these, a password manager is fine to use. Most password managers will generate and remember strong passwords for you, so using that functionality for these sites is smart. For many people moderate sites make up the bulk of sites and they are the ones that are used seldom enough to forget. There is only so much room in a post like this.
