And I notice on We Support Our Gilbert School Board page that Ms. Burk's comment made in error pointing to that page instead of the Maricopa County Superintendent of Schools Information Group has not been corrected. This will give people more fuel to point fingers...........thus creating a bigger divide in the community. 6 days ago

So after findinga Facebook page started by Ms. Burk, with individual particpants selected specifically by Ms. Burk, it suddenly disappeared.................interesting. I saw that page up and running just a day ago. [whistling]6 days ago
Something is rotten in the state of Denmark as far as tabling the override is concerned. If Ms. Burk didn't have all the information she needed then why even put it on the agenda? The override got swept off the table due to Ms. Burk claiming that “Legally, I think we were a little rushed in preparing the legal documents. I want to make sure things are done right and correctly and making such a big decision on a rushed meeting is not necessarily the way to go,” and “I think this should be an issue for people to come back and make comment. … so I apologize for placing that on the agenda. I motion we table that for a future meeting.” What underlying agenda or lobbying is going on? Those who showed up to the meeting apparently weren't the right ones to help her along with this decision.1 week ago
LIG - looks like personal opinion or whatever those who support you tell you as their own opinion comes first and then we do research? Yikes.1 week ago
My question is, will Mr. Colvin and Mrs. Smith actually take responsibility for their "oversight" or will this somehow be the fault of the administration? To make a highly presumptive statement that there are funds sitting in the district to be used BEFORE you are elected now only seems to be something used to garner votes. If I had voted for either of them, I would be sorely disappointed.1 week ago
I am guessing the claims made by Mr. Colvin and Mrs. Smith that there was plenty of money in the district during their run for the board turned out to be wrong. They and the board president made sure that their opinion that the override should be turned down very clearly last November. Looks like we are now back-pedaling on this since they are discovering that there is no "hidden" money waiting to be found.1 week ago
Mike - the show takes place on 4/6 from 2:30 - 3:30 at Macy's at San Tan Village. It is to show what is acceptable to wear at Prom. This idea was birthed by Julie Smith.2 months ago
*No direction for teacher raises from Lily Tram or Jill Humpherys.
This is a false statement. Jill and Lily were both for the raises, but they needed to include those who are on the classified staff roster.
*Tram and Humpherys wanted all administrators to get a raise or the raise was a no go.
Again false. Nobody mentioned that admin getting a raise. It was all about classified and certified staff. The 2% stipend that the classified staffers were to get was taken from them and Jill and Lily objected to this.
*FYI teacher raises put money in the classroom.
While this is partially true, Smith, Colvin and Burk want to refuse part if not all of federal funding so ideally the money that is refused that is supposed to go to classrooms would not be available and so teachers would be paying for supplies once again.
**At least one commenter sounds like a former board member that lost the election.
Wow - way off track, but nice hunting!
And to LIG - I coud not believe the a district staff member was even asked to waste their time in putting otgether a fashion show for prom apparel. I am betting most girls already have their dresses, and the precious time that district person had use for this instead of working on more important matters is horrible. Was this not something the board should have presented as a vote since it took someone away from their district duties? I know Burk objected to any district personnel being the ones who moderated the committee meetings. She stated in a board meeting that this was wasteful to take them away from their already busy jobs. Sounds like we're being a bit contradictory here.........2 months ago
I think someone needs a course in reading comprehension. Nowhere is it mentioned that this current board is to blame for the override not being voted in, BUT, as LIG states, the three board members we have all mentioned did in fact make a public statement that they were opposed to it. Many times I read two of the newly elected members stating repeatedly that there was "excessive" spending and that the district was sitting on more than enough in funding, which led voters to vote the override down. In all the videos and meetings held as of Jan 2013, they have found very little in excessive spending to cut, but managed to approve almost $160k in a gifted program that could be held off until the budget is actually balanced. To keep with the alligator theme............I wouldn't be surprised that soon these board members will be "up to their necks in alligators" trying to figure out where to cut monies without negatively impacting our children.2 months ago
