Yes, Tom, I'd like to hear the media talk more about a) the GOP staffer's "editing" of the emails, and b) the effects of the GOP's cutting the Foreign Service Security budget by $300 million.4 weeks ago
Linda, you make some excellent points about moms. There's a lot of truth to what you've written in this particular column. But your snippy comments about men distract from the message. There's no need to insult men as a group to make your point. I'm a liberal and a feminist and I clearly respect men more than you do.1 month ago
Good idea, Mike. Gilbert seems to be the perfect town for the Tea Party experiment. They should privatize everything possible: schools, roads (except the arterial roads, but all the others belong to HOAs), parks, rec centers, libraries. The neighboring towns should be careful to check IDs and charge Gilbert residents when they try to use facilities elsewhere than Gilbert. Then let's see how quickly Gilbert residents will start crying for the evil "gummint" to come back in.1 month ago
Onerebel, it's not an either/or proposition. Severing the spinal cord of a baby is repugnant. The NRA's obsession with guns is also disturbing.2 months ago
KJ, what evidence do you have for your claims?3 months ago
KJ said: The same type of mental giants that voted for Obama also voted for the above incompetents [Arpaio, Brewer, Babeu] and corrupt.
KJ, I don't think the same people who voted for Obama also voted for Arpaio et al.
What Bill Richardson left out in his article is that funding for DPS has been slashed by the legislature. Arizona's population, the number of cars on the road, and the number of highways has grown, but DPS has not been funded appropriately.3 months ago
Linda, you're contradicting yourself on several fronts here. You say that your column is not about pedophilia, yet most of the concers you raise involve "protecting children." You say that the population of gays is much smaller than previously thought, maybe 2%. Well, that's still about 6 million people, more than the populations of most cities in the US. And you're concerned about what might happen if a gay Boy Scout went on a camping trip with other boys. Guess what: it's already happened. Probably lots of times. The Boy Scouts can offer much to our kids, but the ban on gay members is counter to all the good they can do.3 months ago
First venter: and what would the "right thing" have been?
Last venter: let's accept your argument that most Democrats are wealthy. Then remember that they are proposing raising taxes on themselves. They're willing to help those less fortunate than they. If the Republicans are against raising taxes, then they are helping out the Democrats by letting them keep their wealth. What do the poor and middle-class get out of the Republican stance? Not much.6 months ago
Who will pay for it? Are you willing to have your taxes raised so that the mentally ill can be properly cared for?6 months ago
Cinncinnatus, you're right, there are plenty of intelligent, thoughtful conservatives out there, but you wouldn't know it from reading the Tribune. Maybe the smart conservatives are too expensive and these whackos are the only ones the Trib can afford? It's a shame, really, because this policy gives a skewed picture of conservatism.7 months ago
