• The only thing that is getting "dumbed down" here is this column and its author. Mischaracterizations, false premises, and a large dose of sophomoric, fundamentalism are what we find throughout this column. It is not even remotely based upon any historical facts nor is it based upon any intellectual or rational conclusions. What I find it to be is intellectually flabby and morally questionable. And, BTW, I find the author neither motivational nor do I find any evidence of her being a "military advocate".

• So, Rational Human...how much should a chief executive earn while successfully operating a $2 billion enterprise? The results of operating the largest public university, and by many measures, one of the most successful universities in the world, is predicated upon finding and keeping the most qualified and successful executives and operators in the field. Mr. Patterson exposes why he he totally unqualified to fill the position on the ABOR by his overt and wholly political ideology when he explains his views on public, higher education...plus, his views and explanations are overly simplistic and barely rise to the the level of intellectual defensibility.

• On one thing, we can agree...How Ms Brown characterizes herself as a "military advocate" is beyond me. It takes more than a "Support Our Troops" sticker on your car to be a "military advocate". BTW, I also agree with Dale...additionally, Ms Brown completely misses the point on every level possible and then wanders off into journalistic never never land by writing about things that are totally off point and truly irrelevant to the gunshot killing of a teenager by an adult who was told by the police to steer clear.

• The salient point here is that, according to Flake, "Pell grants are the cause of rising tuition". By Flake's "rational" approach, the same case could be made for breast feeding...it is breast feeding that is the cause for rising tuition costs! Can Flake say and understand the words, "non sequitur"? It's time to save ourselves from the irrational and the unthinking and vote FOR the rational, for common sense, for a better educated Arizona, and for a better future now...vote for Carmona for US Senate.

• In_God_We_Trust....what part of "public education" don't you understand? As Americans, we have always invested in our future generations...at least until recently in Arizona when suddenly the whole idea of public is coming under attack by the Tea Party, Christian fundamentalists and by the otherwise shortsighted and the ignorant. The Arizona legislature has continually cut funding for education by cutting revenues and then blaming the revenue shortfalls on overspending. The Arizona legislature now spends more on state prisons than on the state universities. The cuts are having a devestating impact on our university system. The Arizona legislature has been bellyaching for years about performance based funding and now they have a formula and a plan to do just that, they respond by criticizing and stalling on the vary plan they asked for. Without investment in higher education, Arizona will continue to wallow in an economic mud pit where almost 20% of its population lives at or below the Federal poverty level. The New American University model at ASU as outlined by Dr. Crow is an example of educational innovation, creativity and success...in spite of the Arizona Legislature and it's efforts to defund the most important investment that Arizona should be making.

• Another really bad idea from start to finish...consider that Arizona already suffers from the fact that 20% of Arizona's population lives at or below the poverty level. So, in order to solve this problem, the answer is LOWER WAGES! Does anyone else get the feeling that somewhere a village is missing ALL of its idiots?

• Just so I have this straight...our state will suddenly become an economic beacon of success and will attract hundreds of new employers when the state government changes its employment practices and moves to a system which eliminates government employees' employment protections to due process. • Russell Pearce is a far right religious fundamentalist who wraps himself in the flag and whose political and electoral behavior patterns reflect the best qualities of the American Taliban. With his membership in the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and his strong ties to Herrod's Center for Arizona Policy, Pearce has consistently led Arizona toward wholly offensive, divisive and restrictive public policies. His personal and professional behavior have been abhorrent. Is this the kind of man you want to hold up to your children as an example of leadership, tolerance, and good citizenship? The answer is NO and it should be NO when you go to vote.
