I am hopelessly nostalgic for the time when the elected representative actually represented the entire district, not just those who voted for him/her. It seems that these GOP guys want to only represent republicans and the rest be damned. Trying to make life better for all in their district and compromising with the other party are the two basics of democracy But as I say, hopelessly nostalgic. The GOP abandoned democracy long ago when they decided that their way is the only way.Feb 15, 2012
I hope this works, but think it is a mistake. To be successful I believe it would require companies to move here from other places. I used to run a company before I retired and would never recommend any company move here -- no matter what the tax rates are. Why would I bring my company to Arizona when minority employees can be hassled with the full support of the legislature, employees' children threatened by legislators hell bent on allowing guns in schools, a poor education system that prevents my company from recruiting sufficient quality graduates, and a feeling that the whole state government is at odds with the federal government, setting up a scenario where my company could end up in a state that eventually secedes from the Union. In general, the Arizona legislature is too unpredictable and extreme to trust it in controlling the competitive environment for my company. Sorry, but the reduced taxes will be nice for those who remain here, but no significant company with professional management will move here with this unstable state government environment..Feb 16, 2011
I suspect the authors of these bills are doing so with good intentions but the ignorance and innocence of the law and how the real world works is astonishing. These proposals could come from eighth graders who have not yet matured their thinking. There is a reason that Thomas Jefferson emphasized the concept of education of the masses so that democracy would work. Those proposing these immature ideas threaten our democracy when the masses [e.g. uneducated Arizonans] support them.Feb 6, 2011
While not taking any side on this left-right debate, I must point out that the majority of Germans supported Hitler in 1939..... Just sayin' Jan 12, 2011
This group seems to be trying to handle these major issues in a civil manner and to find a practical solution that moves our state forward. Hard to see why anyone would have a problem with that. There really is no reason to spew hatred if your cause is just and consistent with God's instructions on how to treat his people. I guess if the facts or society are not on your side, all that is left is to attack. I wish this group luck and offer my support. They are trying to get us back to one of the values that made the country great -- willingness to compromise amongst those with different views. The immediate hatred in some of these letters is the challenge, of course. Dec 11, 2010
