Rodini: Using CAPS does nothing to add to the logic of your argument. And when you say “please defense spending has run rampant forever. There has never been a cut back, just spend, spend spend.” – where are you getting this bogus information? It is absolutely false. There are dozens of on-line sites which document the amount spent on defense historically. In 1990, defense spending was $409 billion. There was a steady decline from there to %296 billion in 1998. This was a direct result of defense cutbacks associated with the “peace dividend” which I mentioned in a previous blog. And Reagan, presiding over the demise of the Soviet Union, laid the foundation for this peace dividend. So please, put your alternate reality ideology aside and debate with real facts.2 months ago
Rodini, the letter presents only one statistic (unemployment) which improved dramatically under Reagan. Yes, taxes went up under Clinton but unemployment went down during this time not because of tax increases but in spite of them. Clinton had good fortune operating for him which Reagan did not have. (1) The “peace dividend” from the collapse of the Soviet Union allowed for decreased defense spending on Clinton’s watch. This was a direct consequence of Reagan’s policies. (2) The convergence of technology which made the internet (and subsequent internet bubble) possible. (3) a Republican congress which dragged Clinton kicking and screaming into implementing welfare reform which actually encouraged more people to work and lowered the unemployment rate. 2 months ago
“Not Leon the Loon”: If “regressive break the bank folly” really was the reason for the improved unemployment numbers under Reagan, then the policies of the current administration should have unemployment down to about 1%. And of course, you did not rebut the fact of the letter because you cannot. 2 months ago
Actually the name of the song Rush plays is "Barack the Magic Negro". It is pop-culture parody based on a piece originally written by David Ehrenstein (a movie critic) titled "Obama the Magic Negro". Bo Snerdley (James Golden) is a black man who has been employed as Rush's call screener for years. Rush is not a racist.4 months ago
The Bush tax rate cuts actually resulted in increased revenue because the economy expanded. Check out the Laffer curve. We are on thie high side of that curve so lowering rates will increase revenue.
We have billions of dollars of wast in the federal budget. Let's cut out the waste first. Anybody who thinks there is no wast in a 3.5 trillion dollar budget is a fool.9 months ago

"Those who receive more from society"?!! How about those who work their posterior off or work smarter to provide a good or service that benefits society?Mar 26, 2012
Fox cable news comes the closest to actually being fair. Of course you can always listen to Rush Limbaugh to balance the severe left-wing tilt of the main (aka "lame") stream media.Mar 23, 2012
